First Rig list!
Hello, I'm new to the cconcept of building a computer, so I'd thought I would give making a rig list a try:
Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146026 Monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824252013 Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148288 Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819111328 Mother Board: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188013 RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820146565 Graphics Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130317 PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817121012 Total: 875$ Is there anyting I missed besides an optical drive? Would this computer run nicely? I would love to hear feedback! |

Not my first choices, but then again I don't use Intel hehe.
Ok, things you're missing: 1.- If you're using XP then you need a 1.44 floppy drive so the XP installation can recognize the SATA HD. 2.- DVD player unless you're using an old one. 3.- Sound Card, I guess yer using on board ![]() Now as replacements, I would change Power Supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703005 Same price, a lil more wattage and works at 83% efficiency instead of 70%, tho it's not as "pretty" as the other one. Everything else seems ok ![]()

PSU: The PSU Pedro linked is a much better choice. One additional feature it has that the Kingwin lacks is active PFC. Plus PCP&C produces the best designed/built PSUs in the market.
Monitor: For a display you also might want to consider the Hanns·G HB-191DPB Black 19" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor. It is the same price, but it is an 8-bit display as opposed to the 6-bit Chimei. Aside from that they are fairly comparable in performance. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824254029 HD: Nice choice for HD selection. CPU: The CPU you have selected is actually designed for mobile applications (laptop). You can get a faster CPU designed for desktop use for less money. Mobo: On the mobo choice you should know that the 680i boards do not support the upcoming 45nm Yorkfield CPUs. You can get the nForce 780i SLI 775 A1 Version (p/n: 132-CK-NF78-A1) directly from EVGA for the same price (which do support Yorkfield). http://www.evga.com/products/moreInf...132-CK-NF78-A1 RAM: Nothing wrong with the memory choice so long as it is compatible with your mobo selection. It is listed as 2.2V and JEDEC specified DDR2 standard voltage is 1.8V. A lot of the tighter timing rated dimms achieve those timings by running at higher volts. As stated, this is not an issue so long as your mobo supports it. GPU: Good price for that particular video card. |

Have to agree on the PSU Pedro suggested, I have had the 750 watt PCP&C for about a year with absolutely no problems

All right, your new conflict is the motherboard.
The Motherboard only runs a FSB of 1333/1066 mhz, the CPU runs at 800 mhz. Also the Motherboard only allows DDR2 1200 RAM, and the ones you picked are DDR2 800. So you can either upgrade the CPU and RAM to better ones to meet the Motherboard specs, or just change the motherboard to one that meets the CPU and RAM specs. On another point, I have that case, the side fans don't push that much air out, but it works till you can replace them later on. Also the front face is a royal pita to handle when installing the DVD Rom.

The case you have picked out isn't worth 150. For the processor you have and since this is your first build i wouldn't guess you are going to dabble into hard core OCing. Thus the 4 side fans on that case is just overkill and dumb. You can pick out a case for 70 bucks that will fit your needs just as well if not better. Im on the campus right now, if i get time later ill pick ya out one. =) Last edited by FluffyBunni; 02-01-2008 at 01:11 PM. |
