Finally got a new computer (problem inside)

ok, I got the EVGA 8800GTS and now it won't run XP, so I figured I'd get vista and a new hard drive through newegg. Only problem is: I have vista now and the hard drive won't come until Thursday.

I need to know if I can install vista now so I can enjoy my next couple of days, then use same product code when new hard drive arrives.

nope

Vista is such a pita when it comes to that, the program comes with one key, you install it and use it, that's it, if you have to reintall then when it's up and running you have to call M$ and explain why you're reinstalling (windows will tell you that the key is in use).

The pain with Vista is that if you change anything inside the case it will ask you to register the key again, so you have to call again. So just make sure you have everything you're going to install, installed and running before you install Vista to avoid headaches.

Well, I'm pretty sure that's only replacement of Motherboards. Basically all you need for new devices are drivers.

Pedro speaks the truth. You change anything, Vista will make you reconfirm your copy is legal.

Another reason not to buy Vista. Wonder why it is so unpopular

I used XP64 for years, and gotta warn ya that most programs treat it as a business/2000 edition, msn messenger was a pita to get working, AVG Free won't install because it sees it as business and free is only for home, and in my case I used Spy Sweeper for anti-spyware and they don't support 64bit OS (still!) do that didn't install either.
