Quantum Computers

This will get you thinking about how crap our new rigs are going to seem to our children when they're grown. Mind blowing stuff. I love this science guy too, he rocks. Michio Kaku (the guest) and he has loads of cool stuff on this and time travel and extraterrestrial civilizations and nanotechnology etc.

EDIT:

Wooooaaaaah. Just saw this one on extra terrestrial civilizations too. All i can say is WOAH.

A powerful quantum computer would make all commerical forms of encryption obsolete, true, but quantum cryptography would still be viable. And you would have to have an unbelievably powerful quantum computer to do even that. A quantum computer has exponential growth with each qubit added, but I think it requires an exponential amount of storage space to record it all. Optimistically we'll have a powerful one within thirty years, but that's optimistic.

Still, overall it's such a beatiful and hopeful dream. I love futurologists

indeed, can you just imagine how powerful MMO's will be in that time period? It would be like playing with RL graphics...lol...i actually think it would be more of a virtual gaming world than running straight off your computer monitor.Newer and newer technology will never come to an end.

after watching the second vid. I don't have super high hopes about us ever getting to type one. Too many assholes in the world in a position of power these days.

People will just have a plug in the back of their heads and hook directly to the internet. Probably have a email inbox in your brain too, hopefully you don't get a bunch of spam.

Anyways look back at humanity a couple of thousand years ago and look at us now. And as time passes we just start to advance faster and faster.
Put the clock forward a hundred years and I bet it would be hard to recognize Earth, pretty damn amazing.
