My game does not run in drive.

So I bought Sim City Societies today, put it in my CD drive and it doesn't run. When I type it in in run, it says please insert disk. Just to see, I burned a CD with iTunes, worked perfectly.

So anyone know what is going on?

Try it in another computer, if it does run then your cdrom is fubar, some cdrom drives do that in time. You could try going to it's manufacturer web site and see if there's a firmware upgrade.

I usually have 2 dvd drives for this reason.

Now if it stil ldoesn't run in another computer, then go back to the store and exchange it for another copy.

If neither of the suggestions by Pedro are conclusive it may be a copy protection issue. Some DRM copy protection schemes will not allow you to run an application if you have software installed that can create virtual disks of the software. If you have such installed that may be the source of the issue.

Also you mention CD drive. Is your hardware a CD-ROM and the software disk a DVD-ROM?

My thoughts exactly.

However DVD or CD rom drives can just go bad after a while. How old is the device we are talking about?

*edit* upon further inspection sim societies comes in DVD format. Are you sure you have a DVD player?

I doubt I do, my computer is a Dell Dimension 3K, bout 3 or 4 years old I would guess. And yeah the disk worked on my mom's brand new computer so I guess ill just have to wait a month for my new one. Thanks all.

EDIT: So can DVD-ROM drives play both DVD and CD-ROM?

Yes, and a dvd burner can burn cd, cdr, cdrw, dvd, dvdr, dvdrw AND also read all cd's and dvd's.
