New Graphics Card!

Hey guys, just picked myself up a new graphics card. I really needed an update from the ATI Radeon 3600x 128MB that dell gave me when I built the computer. I bought a brand new Geforce 8800GT 512MB Graphics Card from Best Buy for $170! Though my power supply was only a 350 Watt I also bought a new BFG 550 Watt Power Supply for $90 .

So my computer is more than WHO ready now the only downside is the crappy Dial-up internet I have to use. I hate living in the middle of nowhere.

Anyone playing any games that they are looking for somonone to play with them I'd be more than happy to buy the game if I'm interested.

Gotta love getting a new pc/vid card which just suddenly lets you play all the games system requirements hasnt been letting you play before Just like a kid in a candy store he owns.

Checkout the other games section, i probably couldnt play anything other than an MMORPG with you due to being on the other side of the world, lag n all but im sure some people in that part of the world would.

That is a nice GPU Zaedred. I picked one up in late November last year and have been very pleased with it.

However, on the the net access......sux to be you. I feel your pain. Up until September of last year I too was stuck with lag-pwning/corpse inducing dial-up access. In PvP I usually went with the name of Dedman Walkin, as that was my usual state when I was not waiting to respawn from the previous lag-enhanced ganking.

AT&T finally bought out BellSouth (who would not invest the capital to push out broadband beyond municipalities) and within three months I finally got DSL. I hope you get access to broadband prior to WAR release or I imagine it will be very frustrating and annoying.

I recall playing DAoC on dial-up. By the time the enemy appeared on my screen I was usually pretty much mezzed or dead. I had a solid PC, it was just having to suck data through a coffee stir stick against opponents that had fire hoses by comparison. My friends/coworkers almost always had weaker systems than mine, but with broadband access they still ran circles around me. Ping times of 1200+ do not make kills easy.

I don't remember my DAoC experience on dial up, but I remember in UO I would go mining and by the time I finished a node, some guy on broadband would have mined everything around me.

Was going to make my own thread but since it's about graphics cards, may as well stick it here

I was considering getting a new computer in the foreseeable future. Was wondering what you guys thought about different graphics card options.

First:
512MB ATI® Radeon™ HD 3870

Second:
512MB GeForce® 8800 GT

Money.... isn't much of an issue so I was considering going dual cards (new job and no expenses except for car insurance ). I'm mainly looking for pros and cons of each I guess. I'm not big on computer part stats or things of the like so keep that in mind. Any ideas/experiences/info etc?

In most games/benchmarks the 8800GT @ stock speed outperforms the HD 3870 by ~15%. Overclocking beyond stock increases that lead of course. There are a few applications/games where HD 3870 performs as well or slightly better, mainly due to driver optimization.

Additionally, that is an excellent price for an 8800GT. Usually runs US$200. They are really dropping the price on those now. Mine was $300 back when I got it in November (SSC version, but still only about $30 over stock speed price of $270 at the time).

The ATI is the better one simply because it's newer and has the GDDR4 memory but I'll take one extra PCI slot due to the size.
