what u guys think?

oh, and we tried to take out the CPU, and 1, the cpu stuck to the heat sinc, and the cpu pulled out of hte mobo without lifting the latch up, and whe ni tried to pry it off the heat sinc i bent the pins a lil (only about 4 of em and we managed to bend them back into place but they're a lil stripped.)
i would like to know what the chances are that we broke the cpu? im tryin to decide if i wanna stick with amd or intel... i dunno waht to do lol

EDIT: Oh and my symptom is that my computer stopped working, i left it on all night and in the morning during AoC it froze, at which point it wouldnt start up, yet my fans and lgihts will turn on for a second and then shut off.

tested the PSU and its fine, so its mobo or CPU...
but get this; after a few days of not working it started working again, right after soemthing smoked inside.

a week later (this morning to be exact) it stopped working again n will only turn on the lights and fans for a second.
and the lights and fans only turn on occasionally. so i dunno

The best method I've found for straightening bent CPU pins is to use a mechanical pencil with the lead removed. Just insert the tip of the bent pin into the pencil and use it to straighten/align it. When removing a heatsink after unlatching the retention mechanism, wiggle/rotate it somewhat before attempting to lift it from the processor. Most thermal pastes have a tendency to set up a bit once they have been in use. That should prevent your damaging any more pins in the future.

Nothing wrong with your choice of CPU. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. On the mobo, I use a DFI LanParty board. The LanParty line is for their high end boards with tons of options in the BIOS for tweaking and overclocking (if that is your thing). The CPU/mobo/GPU/RAM all appear to be compatible.

If I understood your post correctly you are saying that this is the second board that has fried/died on you? If that is the case, I would be more concerned with that than anything else. Your PSU is an excellent brand so I would not think that is the source of your issues (although you can get a bad one with any brand). It is possible you got two bad boards in a row (although that too is unlikely). In your position, I would check all the component connections to ensure that something is not connected incorrectly. Generally (not always) if a board is going to die it will do it immediately or way down the road. Do you have a UPS/surge suppressor on your system?

Hey yeah I tested the PSU and it was fine.

I'm not gonna overclock or anything... too complicated and it's hot here and I don't have any kind of good cooling system other than what comes in the case, minus one fan because it decided it wanted to die on me.

we've disconnected it, connected it, taken the mobo out and checked everything, undone every single connection and replugged it in

im all outta ideas haha, i think im just gonna buy the mobo and hope hte cpu isn't messed up as well.
if you guys know of a better mobo option feel free to post it, i dont wanna spend a lot of money and im not gonna overclock or anything fancy like htat

I can say that I have been very happy with my LanParty mobo. Have 30% overclocked CPU, 17% overclocked GPU, and 10% overclocked RAM. Have never had any hardware issues.

Damn venom, computers hate you, lol.

That can happen (the CPU comes out with the HS). The best way to have that NOT happen is to twist the HS VERY VERY GENTLY back and forth, as you pull upwards. Don't go crazy with the twisting, then it will all come out together and you'll bend more than 4 pins. But the bent pins shouldn't be a big deal, just bend them back and all should be fine.

Your analysis is correct however, given the symptoms, it can either be the PSU, Mobo, or CPU. You tested the PSU, so that gives us Mobo or CPU. (wait, wtf were you doing taking the HS off in the first place?). To be hoenst at this point i would suggest a bad CPU (like pwn said, odd for a mobo to just go bad after a month or so) unless a capacitor or fet fried (for some odd reason) on the mobo, that would explain the "smoke."

Keep us posted =)

would there be at least some activity though if it was just the CPU?

all that happens is the lights flash, and fans whirl. then they're off. its like hte mobo doesnt get power. we even tested with a multimeter and it seems that the motehrboard gets power right when we turn on the PSU , n then it goes dead.

a friend of mine told me to point out where the smoke came form and it came from maybe the bakc lights like where hte USB stuff is. and that may be right. or it could have come from the CPU...

and i took off CPU because we were checking it for burn marks dick! haha

Question did you use the motherboard stand offs? My friend had some what the same problem and he did not use the stand offs so he shorted one side of the motherboard. Also lights might be shorted to the case, I have had that happen to me before.

sounds like an overheat did u overclock it too much or do u have a lot of crap inside the case... like lights, or it could have been bad luck on the mobo or cpu.

Well I originally suggested you the Gigabyte mobo since it has always worked for me, you got one DOA and now this, so you could give Pwn's suggestion a try next.

As for checking what burnt, I had a similar problem years ago (all lights turned on but nothing happened), it was one of my RAM sticks that blew a pin, just that damaged the RAM slot on the mobo. You could try checking the ram pins on both sides and underneath and look for black spots.
