be prepared those 4850s and 4870s run hot even at idle. but i have as of yet heard of any artifacting or anything really bad anyways. i think ati is gonna come out with some new drivers to control temps. maybe a manual fan speed option.

i was just commenting how the 4000 series ati cards run hot......80-85 degrees if i recall correctly. the price on the 4850 is awesome though. good bang for the buck. i was just waiting for drivers to mature before i consider replacing my 9600gt if i even do that.

AH OKAY!
I couldnt post the whole message from my mobile at work for some reason. So when I installed my cards I went to hit the power switch and BAM. Nothing happened. So im like...wtf, did I maybe trip the cable that connects to the power button?*check* nope. Is it cut?*check*nope. WTF. My motherboards power light is on, so is the LED on the sound card, but thats it, nothing else happens. The weirdest thing is that the power supply is apparently supplying power, but the fan isnt running. The computer was working until I put in thos cards, I even put in the temporary one I was using till I got my 4870's, and still nothing, I really have no idea what is wrong, but im suspecting either the motherboards fried or the power supply is. EDIT: on a side note I am currently using one of the cards in my old computer >> |

Newegg.com - SILVERSTONE ST85F 850W ATX 12V 2.2 & EPS 12V Power Supply 100 - 240 V RoHS, FCC, CE - Power Supplies
It turns out the power supply is fine, and its the motherboard that got fried. |

Hmmm, odd. You checked both the video cards separately in another system to confirm they are O.K? If so, then I'm curious what caused the mobo failure...?
Check for dark smudges on the pc board around the connectors, components, and the back side. You may be able to determine what smoked and perhaps why if you can locate such. |
