It would be unusual on a brand new mobo, but I have seen this problem with bad or dead mobo batteries.
If all else fails, shut it down, swap in a new battery, try booting. It is easy to check and worth trying.

Why the point?

Hard drive, hard drive, hard drive.
You ran a windows repair a chkdsk /r and a fixboot C: ? Reformat try again, but that is 100% symptomatic of a hard drive issue. Try swapping out a known good HDD or a brand new one and let us know. (this happens a lot at my school IT job, exact same symptoms, the solution is to always reimage the HDD).

Swapped batteries, didnt make a difference, but thanks.
He took out his 40 GB Western Digital and is going to make his 160 GB Maxtor his only (main) one. He had about 50 GB worth of files on there but he did the quick format already and is installing windows... whats the difference between the two? should he re-do it with the full format option? EDIT: Poot says to say thanks for all your guy'ss help. he just totally reformatted and it worked. So now he has to start alll over haha. thanks for the help guys

No problem with the assistance. I'm fairly certain your problems were due to failure to format and reinstall the OS.
For future reference anytime you change the mobo in a system you should format the HDD(s). If you don't you are almost certain to get registry errors that will cause problems even if you are able to get the OS up and running. I doubt the 40Gb HDD is problematic, you should be able to format it and use it without issue as a secondary drive if you desire. Last edited by Pwnzilla; 06-30-2008 at 01:11 PM. |
