9600 GSO vs 9600 GT VS 8800 GT

Just built my new WAR PC a few weeks ago, as well as my girlfriends, and my bestfriends, built them all at the same time. All the same gear except for Vid Card, i went 9600 GT, she: 9600 GSO, and buddy: 8800GT.
Crystal Mark Benchmark @ 10,000 sprites:
9600 GT 32 FPS
9600 GSO 27 FPS
8800 GT 24 FPS

Had a real tough time deciding between stream processor count or clock speed... apparently clock speed is where it is at.. Im old school, didn't use to have a stream processor rating last time I bought a card..
But budget KFA2 9600 GT won out...@ only 140 bucks.. not bad
and if your a bit on the noob side to tech. info the human eye cannot detect a difference @ about 25-30 FPS and up, anything below that looks laggy.

Better test is either 3Dmark06 and or vantage...

Its goes 8800GT > 9600GT > 9600GSO a.k.a 8800GS

agreed, I dont even llike crystal mark, but my friend insisted on it, and since his was done over the phone I couldn't exactly force him to go 3D mark, and I wanted them all on the same benchmark.
But yeah I assumed the gso would do better too, I also did the gso and 9600 gt on burn in test, and GT still won.

*edited for acuracy, thank you Pwnzilla.

Interesting results you are getting. The 9600GSO should come in slowest and depending on the situation the 9600GT and the 8800GT should be neck and neck.

I'm guessing when the drivers are more mature for the 9600GSO it will show better performance.

Generally the rule for overall performace has to do with board bandwidth and stream processors.

*There are a number of other things that affect overall performance, but without getting too technical, here are is a comparison.

8800GT 57.6 GB/s (112 stream processors)

9600GT 57.6 GB/s (64 stream processors)

9600GSO 38.4 GB/s (96 stream processors)

All very similar cards mathmatically though.

Your values for the memory bandwidth on the 9600GSO appear to be incorrect Moobsy. According to the EVGA website the values for those units are:

9600GSO
Performance
550 MHz GPU
96 Processing Cores
400 MHz RAMDAC
Memory
384 MB, 192 bit DDR3
1600 MHz (effective)
38.4 GB/s Memory Bandwidth

9600GT
Performance
650 MHz GPU
64 Processing Cores
400 MHz RAMDAC
Memory
512 MB, 256 bit DDR3
1800 MHz (effective)
57.6 GB/s Memory Bandwidth

8800GT
Performance
600 MHz GPU
112 Processing Cores
400 MHz RAMDAC
Memory
512 MB, 256 bit DDR3
1800 MHz (effective)
57.6 GB/s Memory Bandwidth

As a rule the performance results will follow as laid out by Zer due to the larger number of stream processors in the 8800GT. There are occasional instances where the 9600GT will outperform the 8800GT due to it's higher core/shader clocks. The 9600GSO is hampered by slower clocks and narrower memory bus than the other two as well as fewer stream processors than the 8800GT.

My bad, you are correct on your values, on re-examination I find 38.4 GB/s bandwidth on the 9600GSO

This clearly puts the GSO at the bottom of the performance list in this lineup.

i just built a new computer and currently using a 9600gt over clocked. i also downloaded evga precision to monitor my temps and can adjust fan speed dont know if any of you have it. im not over clocking it.

EVGA's Precision is a nice little utility. I use it to monitor temp on my 8800GT SSC.
