Single or X2?

Hey, I'm just here for some tech advice. I might buy a new PC, and I was wondering whether or not to get one or two nVidia GeForce 8800 GT 512MB. Also, if the ATI Radeon HD3870 is better (I don't think it is) please tell me. Thanks.

I would recommend an ATI 4870. Great performance for an absolute great price, cannot go wrong there.

As for one or two, I'll let someone else with more knowledge on the benchmark scores to comment on that. For WAR though a solo card will be fine.

Those are the only options I have right now, and I'm not exactly made of money right now, so...

The 3870X2 will outperform a single 8800GT. However ensure your case and PSU can accommodate the requirements of one. The card is 10.5" long and requires both a 6 pin and 8 pin PCIe connectors. It also draws ~300w under load. Dual 8800GTs in SLI will outperform a 3870X2.

Pwnzilla, I am buying the computer as a whole, so I don't have to worry about that. The 3870X2 is $300 more, and the 8800GTX2 is $320 more. I'm just asking if it's worth it to get dual graphics cards, since I am on a bit of a budget.

One graphics card will always provide a higher price/performance ratio. The more cards you add, the less additional performance you will get out of the next card. So, you are on a budget? Single card is the way to go in my opinion.

MSI Radeon HD 3870 X2 OC Graphics Card :: TweakTown

That site compares the two cards pretty well right there (how reputable it is/how good their testing is i dont know, but im sure it's not too off).
