Run 2 Operating Systems?
Hey guys,
I was looking to pick up a new HDD and i was wondering if i could install Vista on it, but still have it run with my Windows XP HDD. would this be possible? Or would i have to format the XP HDD anyways?

You can run a dual boot system. Question is unless you have a critical program that is not compatible with Vista, why would you want to?
The added complexity of maintaining two separate operating systems, tracking where files are located, and potential conflicts just aren't worth the aggravation unless as I wondered you have a critical application that is not compatible with Vista. But, if you want to go for it a fairly good explanation can be found at the Elder Geek. Vista Dual Boot with XP Installation Last edited by Pwnzilla; 07-09-2008 at 09:15 PM. |

You can run X.P. and Vista on two separate partition. Thou, I heard vista having some conflicts with xp. However, I never tried duel booting vista and xp. Thou, between running ubuntu 8.04, xp, and a swap partition for linux. There is no conflicts what so ever on my laptop. If you do go ahead with partitioning a hard drive. I recommend backing up the hard drive first and then use ubuntu live cd for partition editor(you can do more with it, then magic partition and it's easier).
