Boot Problem

Well I built my new rig today and I hit a wall. Everything seems to be plugged in and wired fine but when I boot all I get is: "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key". I've made sure the dvd drive was first in the boot order and even disabled the raid controller and still nothing. Any ideas?

Here are the specs:
MSI K9A2 Platinum
Phenom 9850
250 GB Seagate Barracuda ( X 4)
8gigs of Ram (DDR2 1066 2 gb sticks)

Is this a SATA DVD burner? If so, try using SATA ports 1&2 for the storage with removable media and port 3,4,5&6 for your SATA array, however... Please re-enable your RAID array and make sure you load the proper RAID drivers before installing XP or Vista, with Vista you can use a thumb drive as you please, however with XP, youll need a floppy or a way to slipstream the drivers into the installation of XP.

Also, select detection timeout for DVD Hard Drives to 0 secs and DVD ROM etc.. to 10-15 seconds (w/e is the default).

Another thing to note is that you dont need the DVD ROM set as the primary, just press whichever button it is for boot device selection on post (for Asus mobos its F8) and press it.

My DVD drive is PATA. I turned the raid back on. I also got into the raid setup and it wouldn't let me create any arrays.

Edit: I also did the boot selection and selected my dvd drive. All it does is give me a blinking cursor. I'll let it sit a while and see if it does anything. There is a jumper block on my dvd drive that I suspect may be doing this.

I'm 85% sure it's my dvd drive now. It makes no attempt at even reading the disks I put in.

Generally jumpers will come in the "Cable select" orientation out of the box, so i doubt that is the issue seeing as the motherboard should detect it fine. Try swapping the DVD drive with a friends or something and see if that works. Does your Bios recognize everything it should? (DvD drive and HDD?)

Yep, thanks for the insight guys. I ran to Wally world and got a new one. Works fine, I'm loading vista now.

One more thing. Anyone know why vista is only reading the hard drive it's installed on and not the others? The raid controller is on but It still won't let me create any arrays even after i installed the drivers into windows.

Ha, I knew that. It's been a while since I messed with hard disks. Thanks for reminding me.
