Graphics Card Choice
I am looking to buy a card in the next few months for WAR and would like to know your experiences with the cards I am looking at and your advice on them.
the cards are: Newegg.com - XFX PVT84JYAJG GeForce 8600 GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards vs. Newegg.com - EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR GeForce 8800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards I know that the 8800GT is better but not only costs more but is very large and hot but the 8600GT will handle WAR but may not be the best in the close future so does any of you have either of these cards, what is your experiences with them and which card would you recommend

You really don't want the 8600. It may run WAR, but it is gimp compared to the 8800GT. Many of the 8600GTs utilize DDR2 memory instead of the DDR3 found on higher end cards. The core/memory speeds are slower but most significantly the memory bus on the 8600 is only 128 bits wide vs the 256 bit wide memory bus on the 8800GT.
Trust me, the 8800GT is easily worth the extra $$$. You will be disappointed if you select the 8600GT. You could opt for a 9600GT to save a few more dollars. It performs at ~90% the effectiveness of the 8800GT. Newegg.com - EVGA 512-P3-N861-AR GeForce 9600 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards Last edited by Pwnzilla; 07-12-2008 at 01:59 AM. |

You have a ati 2400 do you not? if so, save your money. It is not worth buying a new card, especially if its a 8600 imo. Your card could easily run WAR, hell even my x700 could.
