My new computer

So I went to Newegg and did some pricing and shopping. I would like some opinions on part choice, and if you could make sure I'm not a complete dount and that everything is compatible.

Opitcal Drive $34

Case $120

Hard Drive $60

Motherboard $130

Video Card $155

Sound Card $136

Power Supply $140

Memory $43

The grand total is $860 with shipping. My limit is a G-note. So if you see room for improvement or have some suggestions for a better item for a little more price let me know.

You don't list what CPU you will be running. You don't list an operating system. You already have XP/Vista?

Case link is giving me an error.

PSU is very powerful for an AM2/9600GT system. You can go with a less expensive PSU and apply the money elsewhere to more advantage. If you plan to stick with a single GPU (or even dual 9600GT) you would do better (cost wise) to go with OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI 700W ATX12V Power Supply.
Newegg.com - OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI 700W ATX12V Power Supply 100 - 240 V - Power Supplies

This unit is only $80 (after current rebate offer). It will run any processor you can install in that motherboard along with dual 9600GT cards in SLI (if that is your desire).

With regards to the memory, the AM2 processor and mobo are designed to utilize a DDR2 800 memory standard. The memory you have linked is DD2 667. It will possibly work, but it is not the best solution. I would recommend OCZ Platinum Revision 2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 Dual Channel Kit (only $19.49 after current rebate offer).
Newegg.com - OCZ Platinum Revision 2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

Do I didn't pick the CPU, but it will prolly be something in the range of 2.4-2.6 Probably an Athlon 64 or something to that effect.

I will be using a old copy of XP, I heard that Vista is buggy as all hell.

I have not had any issues with Vista but if you want to stick with XP that's fine. Just realize that you can't play DirectX10 games without Vista. Fortunately, from the info that has been published, WAR is not DirectX10.

Well, assuming you will be using your old OS then I will just put together a system with everything but a monitor. If you need to include the monitor just say so.

Price does not include shipping and/or tax. Newegg has to charge tax in California, New Jersey, and Tennessee. Shipping should be low enough to keep it under $1000 as most items were "Free Shipping".

You will be using your copy of WindowsXP, the cooler/TIM that is included with the cpu, the sound chip on the motherboard, and your monitor.

Almost all the items are mature products (gpu being the exception) so driver issues should be minimal when it comes time to assemble.

If you order the components now you should have them within a week and another week to assemble should not be an issue with the WAR release date (when ever that is).

However if you just do not wish to assemble your own then the resellerratings.com link for Ibuypower is here
iBUYPOWER.COM Customer Ratings, Reviews and Prices at ResellerRatings

They are 6.92 on a scale of 10 for a lifetime rating. Seem to be a bit higher of late, 8.22 over the last six months. It appears that you should avoid buying from them around Christmas season. Their January scores are very poor. I personally don't buy pre-built, but using their configuration set-up I was able to spec this system that would meet you requirements:

Case ( Nzxt Hush Gaming Tower Case w/420W Power Supply Black )
Power Supply ( 650 Watt -- Corsair CMPSU-650TX Power Supply SLI Ready )
Processor ( Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E8400 (2x 3.0GHz/6MB L2 Cache/1333FSB) )
Processor Cooling ( Certified CPU Fan and Heatsink )
Motherboard ( MSI P35 Neo-F P35 Chipset w/7.1 Sound, Gb LAN, S-ATA, USB 2.0, Single PCI-E MB )
Memory ( 2 GB [1 GB X2] DDR2-800 PC6400 Memory Module Mushkin )
Video Card ( EVGA NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT 512MB w/DVI + TV Out Video )
Hard Drive ( 500 GB HARD DRIVE [Serial-ATA-II, 3Gb, 7200 RPM, 16M Cache] )
CD-RW/DVD-RW Drive ( [** Special !!! ***] 20X Dual Format/Double Layer DVD±R/±RW + CD-R/RW Drive Black )
Sound Card ( 3D Premium Surround Sound Onboard )
Speaker System ( None )
Network Card ( Onboard LAN Network (Gb or 10/100) )
Floppy Drive ( Mitsumi 1.44 MB Internal Floppy Drive Black )
Keyboard ( Logitech Deluxe Keyboard Black )
Mouse ( Logitech G5 Gaming Laser Mouse )
USB 2.0 Accessories ( Built-in USB 2.0 Ports )
Flash Media Reader/Writer ( 12-In-1 Internal Flash Media Card Reader/Writer Black )
Operation System ( None- Pre-formatted Hard Drive Only )
Warranty ( Warranty Service Standard 3-Year Limited Warranty + Lifetime Technical Support )
$950

Does not include speakers, operating system, or shipping costs. Adding Vista OS adds ~$100 to cost.
