Processor Installation

So how hard is it to uninstall then install a processor?

I'm looking to get a new one since some money has come my way.

Not hard. Just make sure you have/or will get some Thermal Paste and some Isopropal (sp?) Alcohol. Depending on the processor you are swapping you may need to do a bios update on your motherboard.

Whats the alcohol for? I'm going to guess removing the thermal paste of the previous processor, no?

pretty much the same for an intel processor install, enjoy. Sorry in advance because these videos are boring, but informative if it is your first time.

With the alcohol, do not use 70% rubbing alcohol. You need to use at least 90% isopropyl alcohol. You will generally find it in most pharmacy/drugstores. Be careful not to touch the surface of the heatsink or processor after cleaning as even the oils from you skin can affect the performance of the TIM (thermal interface material). Most prefer Arctic Silver 5 for choice of TIM.
