Exclamation My comp...

Yeah i just got a new computer a couple years ago and all was going good till "XP Antivirus 2008" came up and downloaded itself. gave me 784 infections... now my computer is slow as shit and it prolly took me a half hour to get here to post so i dont know why i am wasting this time to chat about this... but anyways.. has anyone here encounter this so called "Antivirus Spyware" because if you do and you come across it do NOT believe anything it says.. it is an antivirus fraud and will trick you out of a few hundred dollars. $172.82 was for me but i have heard of it giving out diffrent prices. It has attacted itself to the Systems 32 files and is nearly impossible to get rid of.. anyone know what i can do to get rid of the rest of the viruses... i got out about 560 of them and are still more left..

We get badly infected computers all the time here (couple hundred PCs) and we've found its more cost effective to just nuke and rebuild. You have some serious security breach if the software installed it's self since most things require SOME user interaction.

Good luck.

With all those viruses, who knows what else is installed that normal anti viruses and spyware/malware can't detect and/or remove.

Best best as nnyan suggested, is to format the entire HD and install everything fresh, and make sure to have anti virus (AVG), anti spyware (spybot and adaware), installed and running at all time

Also another thing I notice a lot, ppl always run in admin mode, if you get hacked, they automatically get on your admin mode, so try to make a separate account that lets you run your games and programs and use that one instead, and put a pretty strong password on the admin account.

I found the same "XP-Anti virus" on my parents computer. Luckily I knew that windows doesn't have an anti virus program for xp. If you get the latest avg. (8.0?), it comes with built in spyware check so that when you run a scan it's for viruses and spyware.

I removed that PoS from my Uncles PC a couple weeks ago, isn't too bad just a safe mode boot, kill any related processes, unregister the dll's it uses, delete the exe directory and then fun of trawling thru the registry removing all the crap.

There are quiet a few guides online about removing it.

I installed Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 on his PC after, I swear blind by it. When it scans it even tells you what versions to patch all your other software to, so you can avoid exploits and other nasties. Or what exploits are around for your software that arent patched yet.

AVG is slow and bad and a memory whore, I personally use NOD32...but it costs money, so I recommend Avira. It's free and quite fast. Another suggestion would be avast, it's also quite good. I've used all 3, and of the 3, I prefer Avira, but it's up to you. I just don't like AVG at all, wasn't very effective. As for your current situation, it is recoverable.

Have a look at this site, it has some instructions for cleaning a PC of viruses and malware and such. Should be able to help you if you have files you really want to keep.
